Keweenaw Community Foundation Announces the Mildred "Millie" Pyorala Scholarship
Hancock, MI, January 13, 2025 — The Keweenaw Community Foundation is excited to announce the establishment of the Mildred "Millie" Pyorala Scholarship, created to honor the legacy of a beloved educator and community advocate, Mildred Pyorala. This endowed scholarship fund will provide annual awards to graduating seniors from Chassell High School, with a preference for students pursuing degrees in education.
Mildred “Millie” Pyorala devoted over 30 years to teaching at Chassell High School, inspiring countless students with her dedication and passion for learning. Her decision to establish this fund reflects her unwavering commitment to education and community.
“I did this to honor the teachers who inspired me, the colleagues who worked with me, the students who taught me while I taught them, and the future teachers who will do the same,” said Mildred Pyorala.
The scholarship will award $2,000 annually to one eligible graduating senior. Preference will be given to students intending to pursue careers in teaching or education, though other fields of study will be considered if there are no qualifying applicants. The first scholarship will be awarded in Spring 2025, with the application period opening on February 1, 2025, and closing on March 16, 2025.
